'Cause a whole lot of woman needs a whole lot more

Skinny is not always beautiful. In fact, sometimes skinny isn’t beautiful at all. Being more than a size zero must never stop you from wearing what you like and being who you want to be. And that is why, we are proud of these women who love their bodies, pamper themselves, and dress to impress.

Big girl, you are beautiful. Mika wouldn't lie.

Strings and Buttons

Stepping out of their Audis and VWs, nibbling at freshly baked Italian bread, or flaunting their “brand” new possessions – the guests at the Carmina Burana Concert at the NCPA blended fashion and music enough for us to report this swanky event in our blog.

Formals being the dress code for the evening, one could see a range from Silk Sarees & Khadi Kurtas, to Cotton shirts & High waist skirts to Tuxedos and Evening gowns. With minimal accessories just enough to fill in the void of that something-missing, elegance hovered in the air. ‘Bling’ was evidently not the call of the day.

We also managed to capture a few decked up guests after grabbing a quick bite at the luscious NCPA Cafe.

A bunch of kids from the American School of Bombay, on the other hand, stood out as they gathered there to watch their friends perform. Chaperoned by their teachers, rather casually dressed, the cluster made a fashion statement unique to the evening.

Ajay Mehta, one of the guests and an ardent pianist, carried a Grotrian-Steinweg  jhola. His friend Zarir chose the more casual look with a red turtle neck and an Adidas side bag.Contrary to our expectation, there was more to the attendees than just suits and ties, thus making us feel less out of place.

Our support system

Bras, don’t we all just love them! and the relationship we have with them? The sexier the bra, the sexier you feel, even if nobody can really see it. Lacy, padded, polka dotted, push up or seamless, that one favorite bra ends up becoming a part of you. For those that don’t spend too much time on lingerie or claim to not care about the bras they wear, a word of caution – an ill fitting bra can turn into your worst enemy. Trust us on this, when it comes to bras, NEVER COMPROMISE!

In the pictures are our own favorite bras that very likely reflect our personalities.

Gold at the end of the rainbow

After attending the gay parade for two continuous years, a sufficiently curious mind such as ours would wonder where the tsunami of colours worn originates from. Well, we’ve found the gold at the end of the rainbow (winkety wink). Not for the timid, D’Kloset (pun certainly intended) brings you outrageous and wonderfully vivid collection of clothes, ranging from mankinis - that make even bikinis look modest - to low crotch harem pants, bringing you high street fashion at an affordable price.

Samuel, who enthusiastically showed us around, made us want to take him home within the first five minutes.

While D’Kloset caters to the lgbt crowd, it is also an attraction for the bolder straight men and gets customers right from the age of 16 to 60. For them,
being gay is not just an orientation, it’s an entire lifestyle. They take the phrase ‘wearing your heart on your sleeve’ very seriously. If fashion is about making a style statement, D’Kloset clothes and accessories accomplish this task with absolute ease. What are they saying? To put it simply: I am gay, so deal with it, B****h.

Suit up!

Take a backseat all those who hesitate to jump the grey scale while choosing their formals. A more joie de vivre wardrobe is here to be worn to that dreadful place called office, only here to make you feel more spirited. From deep pink to gold to lime – add that splash of colours to your formal attire.

25 yr old Rythma likes to experiment with unconventional shades when she dresses up every morning for work.

When Helmut Newton first stepped into the hitherto untouched arena of androgynous dressing back in 1975 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lesmoking.jpg), less did he know that his daring act would become a trend in itself. The male entrepreneur is no more the sole proprietor of the black suit and tie. Watch out for them women in black!

Teri kurti sexy

Walking the streets of Causeway Colaba, hailed as the street fashion haven of South Mumbai, for the hundredth time now, the atypical style of clothing amongst the tourists tends to go unnoticed. Quintessential street-fashion ambassadors,be it women or men, our ‘models’ have embraced all the Indian-ness they could find. Dhotis, Dupattas, Kolhapuri chappals, Ghungrus, Gajras, Embroidered handbags, phew! All of India comes together, on a Firang

Back with a SPLASH

Who said summer dresses are for the demure? With the heat back, it’s time to put away those jeans and woolens and put on our lightest and breeziest attire possible. With patterns ranging way beyond the floral, there is a perfect summer dress for everyone.

Although you don’t have to be the kind that twirls through oases to pull one off, you can’t help feel float-y and feminine in one.

Stole 'n' Simplicity

Sometimes we just don’t see what is right in front of our eyes. We walk around at Bombay Central and buy this fashion magazine from the newsstand and try to educate our simple minds about what fashion is. While women in Burqas pass by with beautiful scarves delicately covering their heads, our myopic eyes bore only into the magazine scoping it for some sort of knowledge. WAKE UP!

In Bombay, Burqa clad Muslim women wear scarves on a more regular basis than others. From the ruffle stole to silk scarves, the variety you will find is astonishing. And it just goes to show that fashion does not always require elaborate styling, loud colours or any form of skin show. Keeping it simple, peace out.

Twisted

A good hair day can turn your day around, but a unique hairstyle can turn your life around. (Been there done that!) One of the things unique to Bombay, at least in the opinion of an outsider, is the number of wacky hairdos you see. Girls with pixie cuts, boys with curly locks, and Mohawks break the drab routine of what is expected to be resting on a person’s head.

The era of experimentation has been ushered in, and as this wave of freshness crashes over us, we cannot but help being filled by the bold risky attitude that it has brought along with it. So don’t let your boat sink to the bottom of this sea of black heads, raise your mainsail above the others, and don’t worry where the winds take you.

Styling Sherry

We went over to Scherezade Shroff’s apartment in Colaba and raided her closet. An accomplished model, best known for featuring in the‘Right Here Right Now’ video from Bluffmaster, Scherezade (Sherry) mostly dresses in branded western and casual clothing.

That’s why, we picked an unbranded red embroidered saree from her clothes and really wanted to see how she’d look in it. We decided to add to the look a pair of kolhapuri chappals and a golden bag, both non-branded, and her mother’s gold jewelry. After an hour of draping, tucking, and un-tucking till we got it right, we stood back and saw our work.

To our surprise, Sherry looked perfectly in character. She really pulled off the entire ensemble without a sweat. Seeing how stunning she looked, nobody would guess that the saree wasn't one of her more expensive, branded possessions.
